After the Meiji Restoration, worriors in Shonai decided to exchange their swords for hoes, and cultivated new farm land at Matsugaoka at the foot of Mt. Gassan to establish the new silk manufactory. The museum occupies a large wooden building constructed in those days to raise silkworms. On display are historical records and items related to the land reclamation project that convey the spirit of the clan warriors. Also exhibited are more than 25,000 folk toys such as earthenware dolls collected from all over the country by the Tanaka brothers, descendants of the warriors.
