The main gate of Matsuyama Castle constructed in 1792 is the symbol of the museum. Permanent exhibits include drawings and calligraphic works of feudal lords and other people from the fiefdom-governed times; articles connected with the Boshin War; articles related to Jiro Abe, philosopher and native of the former Matsuyama-machi; and oil paintings of the Mogami River landscape by Keiji Massimo.
